Plan For Poster

Like for my plans for a magazine cover I also had to do the same with the poster so I have created two plans which were both done on the computer.

The first poster plan is very simple, I wanted everything to be black and white apart from the picture so it would stand out more as the picture is the main focus. My tag line "It's not all happy in paradise" stands out very well as it is big and bold at the top of the poster. The text is also very clear for the name of our soap "Blossom Hill", and I have also included when it starts and what channel so all the information needed is on there. I like the idea as it's set out very clear but then I do think it is a bit boring.

For the second poster plan I also did an improved version, I really like this idea because it's not boring like the first plan. The tag line has a slight change "It's not all perfect in paradise" because I think the use of the "P's" sounded better. The poster is a contrast because on one half the background is a peaceful beautiful beach that looks like heaven where as next to it the background is a very harsh thunder and lighting which is very negative compared to the first picture but this ties in with the tag line of "not every things perfect in paradise" which I think goes really well. Again there is a picture of the cast in the centre of the poster which half with be in the positive side and half in the negative. All the information needed is on the poster set out nice and clearly, this idea is my favourite one as it is so much better than my first plan because it's fun, interesting and has a meaning.

Plan For Magazine

With our trailer we also need to produce a magazine for our trailer and a poster. I have done 2 plans of possible magazine covers, I did one by hand and one on the computer to show a different variety.

The first plan is very crowded but not confusing I have organised it very neatley but wanted it to be very busy and in your face. I like how at the bottom, I planned to have different stories in the zig zag shapes which firstly looks quite cool and then it wouldn't leave any gaps or white spaces. I have also made the left third have the most important information to try and sell the magazine, also in the centre there is the main storyline so it is big and will stand out.

The second plan was done on the computer so you can see it more clearly what it will look like. I have used very bright colours for the background and text to make it stand out because this is what current soap magazines have done and it has worked to grab your attention. I like the diamond shape of my main storyline cover because it looks a bit different and is very big, also I have all the other cover lines neatley together so I have set it out well. Again I have3 focused on the left third and planned well what I wanted to go there. Lastly I like how at the bottom of my magazine I will have a picture of all the characters in the soap so the audience will be able to see everyone who is in it.

Initial Ideas On Our Own Soap Opera

I have started thinking about ideas for my groups so operas and in my head what I want it to be like. As our soap opera is going to be a brad new one I want to concentrate on more the first impression of the characters rather than the storyline. I have seen from the Student soap operas what I think works well and what doesn't, I like the idea of showing each family or group of friends individually first so you see them by there self and how they are, but I also like the idea of them all coming together at the end so our audience can see exactly what the characters are like in our soap. This is just the first idea in my head that I think is good but it doesn't mean it will defiantly happen as my group may have other ideas that will work. I am hoping our camera skills will work during filming our trailer as I think it's a crucial part of making it successful, also having good actors would benefit us because it makes the whole trailer flow a lot better, these things I will work on with my group further into our project and when we get together and all share our Ideas we will be able to think of something that we all like and all think will work.

Soap Opera Trailer Analysis

Soap Opera Trailer Timings

I was set the task to note down when soap opera trailers were shown on television so it would give me an idea of when the best time to show a trailer depending on what audience you wanted to target. I took my notes and put them into a trailer so you can clearly see what trailers I found and when. The soaps such as Emmerdale would show their trailer at an early time in the day because they want to hit an older audience who would be watching television at this time. Soaps such as Eastenders who want to hit a wide variety audience would show their trailer at "prime time" which is when most people watch TV because they are home from either work or school. Lastly soaps such as Hollyoaks who want to target the younger audience show their trailer late at night because the younger audience would still be awake by then and watching television. This task has helped me because when I am further into planning my actual soap, I will know my target audience so I will then know what time I would want my trailer to be shown.
